Statement from Sacramento School Boardmember Mai Vang

“In the middle of a global pandemic, I cannot vote for these layoffs. At at time when families are struggling and our students need all the support possible—we cannot go down this path without knowing what the road ahead looks like. I understand we need to have a balanced budget, but we cannot balance it on the backs of layoffs and working families. I’ve asked time and again, “how do these layoffs fit into the big picture of how we’re going to become more fiscally solvent?” If we don’t have an answer to that, then these are all band-aid solutions—and ultimately, our students suffer.”
