Anti-Asian hate and violence are not new in our community. In the midst of so much trauma facing our community already, an anti-Asian incident from this afternoon was brought to my attention that occurred at a High School in the heart of North Sac. This is Sacramento, we must do better.

Perpetuating racist stereotypes of Asian Americans is harmful under any circumstance, but they are particularly egregious at a time when anti-Asian racism and violence is at an all-time high. Students should feel safe in their learning environments and the actions of this teacher violates that safety and creates a climate that excuses hateful acts. The leaders of the Twin Rivers Unified School District must take immediate action to investigate the situation.
