SNR - Editor’s note: The “Sacramento squad” is urging elected officials and candidates to “just say no” to police money.

The pledge was started by Zima Creason, a San Juan Unified Schools trustee; Tamika L’Ecluse, an American River Flood Control District board member; Katie Valenzuela, the incoming Sacramento City Councilwoman in District 4; and Mai Vang, a Sacramento Unified Schools trustee who is in the November runoff election to represent District 8 on the Sacramento council.

As four women of color, some are calling them “the Sacramento squad”—a local version of “The Squad” of Democratic congresswomen elected in 2018. They’re calling on all elected officials and candidates in the Sacramento region to sign on to the pledge.
