In the midst of the pandemic and racial justice uprisings after the murder of George Floyd, four elected women of color – Zima Creason, Tamika L’Ecluse, Katie Valenzuela and Mai Vang – banded together to use their platforms to save Black lives by pledging to end the financial relationship between law enforcement and politicians.

“As the current pandemic continues to impact our city and our neighborhood, while the struggle is wide-spread, it’s not equally shared. And what we are seeing Black, Brown and Indigenous are bearing the brunt of the devastating effects of Covid. Moving forward it’s incredibly important for policy makers, those in position of power to make sure we center on families and communities. It’s got to be the core of the recovery. Some of the issues are emergency rent and mortgage payment assistance,” [Mai Vang] said.
